Wine club with a book problem #4 (#5? I can’t remember)

This book was not for me. I fell asleep multiple times reading this and honestly just skimmed the last 25% because it would not end. Truly, I was very bored. I would have DNFd if it weren’t the book club book.

It was way too insta-love for me, but also I have no idea what the characters saw in each other. Josiah’s personality was builder and Audrey’s was dog. That’s about it. Why these 2 fell for each other I still have no idea.

The premise was cool but the execution was lacking. Like a stalker? Stakes are for sure high, but this didn’t feel like it. And I will say, I figured out who the stalker was very early on, even if I didn’t know for sure why they were obsessed with Audrey.

Also, I didn’t read the Bailey brothers series so I was probably missing context on some things (aka all the freaking squirrel stuff) but I really didn’t care. It was kind of too weird for me, and quirky but not in a cute way.

This writing also really annoyed me. It was very much “I, I, I” or “He, he, he”. Like I did this, he did this. It was very basic and was driving me crazy. This is probably my biggest gripe with this book. It might just be the authors writing style but it was a huge turn off for me and I have no desire to read any other works by this author.

The romance here was like a lot cleaner than I was expecting as well, which was just disappointing. Honestly I probably would have given it a 2.5 if there was actually any spicy scenes, but this toed the line of a closed door romance which I was not expecting.

Listen, I loved this book. The suspense, the characters, and the story was just so good. I was entranced by this book and their story. The audio narrators were fantastic.

Josiah is the grumpy small town guy who renovates houses and rents them. Audrey is sunshine and happiness. She just moved back to the area and finds herself renting one of Josiah's places. I adored these two. They just complemented each other perfectly.

Max is the cutest and energetic dogs even though he does the grossest things. 😂

The suspense was so intriguing and I honestly had no idea who was behind everything until it was revealed.

I cannot wait for more of these characters story! I have quickly fallen in love with this small town and these characters.

Obsession Falls is the first book in the "Haven Brothers" series. I really enjoyed this book and I do recommend the audiobook if you can get access to it. I was very intrigued with this one, and as this is a new to me author, I did put this one off a bit more than I normally would have liked. I just wasn't in the right frame of mind to truly enjoy it. This was also part of my 2024 Romanceopoly choice for the week.

Obsession Falls is a romantic suspense of sorts. It deals with a stalker and the mystery of who is behind it. We also have a sweet romance that develops between our characters. It hard knowing what you will get into with a grumpy sunshine romance but this author really delivered on this one here. I found their story to be such a solid one. We see the way in which they connect to one another. I didn't have any issues with either character although the heroine could be a bit naive. The romance was low angst which I wasn't expecting it. I do see the appeal of this author though and I am curious to see what the author will be delivering with this series.

The plot of the story was fascinating. I always seem to enjoy a stalker theme to the villain and for the most part the identity of the villain was kept quiet at least until the third act. I did enjoy seeing the way that the plot was developed here. I do think there could have been a bit better focus on the suspense at times as it seemed to fade into the background a bit more than I would have liked it to be.

Overall I enjoyed Obsession Falls and it was such a solid read that delivered great edgy feels and some powerful chemistry. A great small town gem.

This story explored family dynamics and finding your place.  No matter how perfect a family looks from the outside, you never know what's going on behind closed doors.  romantic suspense, grumpy-sunshine, fun read.
