The first time I read this book was in high school, and I hated it. In fact, I hated all things Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Then, I re-read it in college. What a difference a little time makes! This novel is smart, hopeful, well-written, and deep.

soo..
it's weird that this required reading novel actually was enjoyable.
especially for it being so dense. or maybe it isn't dense.

Doth mother know you weareth her drapes?
...okay, not exactly a quotation, but that old language! After a while it wasn't even as hard as it seemed and it was quite fun to read.
Anyway, what a surprise. I didn't expect to enjoy it so much at all.
