This was one of the best books I've read in a long time, the author painted the story so beautifully I felt that I was placed in the middle of it. I found myself thinking about the characters long after putting the book down and feeling emotionally connected to their journeys. I will absolutely be reading it again!

pretty good for what it is. this is an enjoyable story that navigates history and family without getting too cliche.

there are just some moments that weren’t satisfying, particularly towards the end. it felt like there was an urgency to wrap up and make this a plot-driven book, even though it excels at not being plot-driven. the tone feels loosey goosey in the final chapters. also the chapter titles are cringe city.

Always love this author and I will always read anything she writes. She really captures the triumphs and sorrows of Mexican families in the west. This book was so beautifully written and had great pacing and intricate stories all intertwined. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good fiction book.

While I liked this, there wasn't a lot of flow between chapters, making my reading experience a lot more... jumpy and sporadic. Had I read this in bigger chunks, I probably would have given this a solid 4 stars instead of a 3.5 rounded down
