Complicated
Meet Elizabeth Bennet, our stories protagonist. She's beautiful, kind, smart and also stubborn as hell. And meet Mr. Darcy, our rich, arrogant and deeply feeling love interest. Come and see how first impressions shape how we see each other, and how hard it may be to change our minds, if we change our minds at all...
This book was full of tension (miscommunication trope ahhhh) and romance, but also it was hilarious. I didn't expect it to be funny, but it is truly the first romcom. The characters we're so lovable, and I enjoyed how they were not super one dimensional. It was the worlds first romcom (I think lol)
It stood the test of time for a reason. But personally my favourite part were the family scenes, I loved seeing the comradery between all the Bennet's, and how Lizzy and Jane were ride or dies. The side characters in this book can be one dimensional stereotypes, but the main ones are fleshed out so well. You really find yourself rooting for them and hoping they get their happy ending (in a Jane Austen novel, this means marriage.) I loved the dynamics, and I liked how they were these perfect person but because with flaws that they grew from and emotions that we can still relate to. Overall, Austen has a real talent for immersing you in a world different than your own!
Any complaints I have of this book would the the same for any book written during this era, which is just the writing style, but you can't really eat banana bread and complain that it tastes too bananaey. I do think it could be a different to read just based on the writing style, but don't let that deter you. Take your time, google things that you may not understand and trust me, it will be worth it.
