This is a read which includes action and adventure, told through a pair of bunnies and their family. Enjoyable enough to want to read the next book in the series.

A tight well crafted story. My only complaint...too short. BUT I loved I could read it one sitting. That is not common for this mom. This story has captured my heart.

We liked this story of Jo Shanks. It was especially fun to read after reading about Heather and Picket's adventures and knowing about their relationship with Jo.

This was another great side story for The Green Ember series. I think that if I was doing it over again, though, I would just read the main Green Ember books and then go back and read the side stories afterwards.

Read aloud with my 11 year old. I had assumed that all of Smith’s novellas were of old Natalia, so it was a fun surprise to find that this was from the not-so-distant past and expanded on a lesser known character from Ember Falls. Kiddo and I are thoroughly engaged and are excited to dig into Ember Rising soon!

The best thing to say about this one: I wasn’t ready for it to end. Smith’s protagonists may be rabbits, but they represent the best of the human heart: courage and faithfulness and unswerving commitment to the cause of good. Love sharing these with my kids.

I wasn’t going to rate this one as high as the others, but then I finished the book. Looking back as a whole, this book is worth all 5 stars. It’s such a great story of a great hero. I love that it was short and an easy read. It’s a fabulous story to read after reading at least the first Green Ember book.

SD Smith has written a beautiful tale for kids and adults alike in the Green Ember series, and this little Green Ember story is no exception. Honor, duty and humility are only a few themes that run through this moving story of the archer Jo Shanks. If you haven’t yet read the Green Ember books, maybe don’t start here, but put it on your TBR for after you’ve read at least the first two. By then you’ll know what I do—a return to the world of the Green Ember is always worth your time!

To truly grasp this book, you must read The Green Ember and Ember Falls.
