This series of books were my first reads from Tchaikovsky and the first two books were amazing. This one... was disappointing. Narratively, I thought it was quite interesting, and I am happy with where the story ended up. Many of the characters were fleshed out more than I was expecting. However, I am finding it really difficult to get past how absolutely whiny and annoying I found Idris to be. I finished the book because of the surrounding plot and other characters, but holy hell I could not stand any time the story came back to Idris.
The story, worldbuilding, and character development through the whole series was a solid 4/5, but Idris, to me, was a 0/5 character in the end.

An amazing, satisfying finish. I was a bit annoyed at the meandering segments where Idris is sooooo tortured and exhausted, and somehow always "finally understands its all", and I think that part could have done with a little more editing - but otherwise the ending was surprisingly satisfying.
Tchaikovsky writes with such a sensitive ear, and has created so many vivid worlds, so many endearing amd different protagonists, I think he is easily my favourite contemporary spec-fic/scifi/fantasy authors.

Just not in the right mood for it I think. Also Olli kept frustrating me. Will try again in a week or so

Sadly, this is where the series lost me. Far too many repetitive chapters and it and tried way too hard to force emotions onto the reader. Pure curiosity for the characters and the weight of time investment from the previous two installments was all that pulled me through the last half.
Makes it very hard to recommend the series as a whole. It was ok.

The last book in the three book series. I enjoyed the books, the story line and the characters. But all three books could have been 75-100 pages less.
