Dry plot, unlikeable characters. The author makes every woman that interacts with the main character utterly obsessed with him. He has no redeeming qualities and is a creep. I can't believe I actually finished this book. Save your time and sanity and pass on this book.
There are a lot of rapey scenes in the book. The author tries to play the main character off as a good guy because he didnt sexually assault a woman after saving her from a traumatic experience. He tries to coerce women into sleeping with them repeatedly after they tell him no. Including the princess he saved from being taken hostage. This poor woman was hostage for weeks and he saves her, strips off her clothes because of hypothetmia and it turns into an awful sexual encounter that she said no to multiple times before being coerced into it. Let me stress that she was hostage for weeks and he goes on to describe her as smelling of lavender and citrus. I don't think I rolled my eyed more while reading any other book.

A good gory fantasy romp

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the characters, the dialogue, the world-building, the magic scheme, the story. A bit more blatant sexiness than I usually tolerate but it didn't ruin the book by turning it into a bodice-ripper. I look forward to the continuation of the series.

I was into the book from the begining, but there were some off-putting parts, especially that most of the characters were horny all the time. But I like the dark-ish theme, and the world building is quite good and easy to get into. I would say smart start!

Pretty decent fantasy except that the politics seem unrealistic. For me, the protagonist is not particularly likable which detracts from my enjoyment. I may (or may not) continue with the series.

A fun read. The betrayal is too common and I lose all interest after that.

This is basically what you'd expect - gritty fantasy with explicit fight scenes, explicit sex scenes, in a typical medieval-ish fantasy setting. The magic is pretty cool, and the characters are mostly one-note but entertaining. I'm ambivalent about Kaiyer - it's only been one book, but the Marty Stu "basically a god but also supposed to be kind of sweet and bumbling" shtick is already getting old. However, I'm intrigued by his backstory and I want to know more. I read this based on my husband's recommendation, and I'll certainly heed his advice and read the next installment, at least. We'll see if I keep going after that!

This novel was a bit of a roller coaster: the highs were high and the lows were low. The world was really interesting and I would get really into it. Then, all of a sudden, there would be a paragraph or sentence that was just...off somehow and jolted me out of the novel. It was frustrating.

I'm still deciding whether I want to read the next in the series. I really liked where the story was going, but I don't know how invested I feel in the outcome at the end of it all.

Exceptional story!! I found myself, without the ability to put this book down. I laughed, I cried, and every other emotion in between. Great character building, and world descriptions. Bravo!
