It felt like it was dragging along in the middle, but I'm glad to have the satsfaction of a resolution at the end.

I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. Read it very quickly. While I don’t love the direction the Foundation series started to go with this one, it is the last chronological story in this series. The plot meanders a bit too much in the middle, but I thought the old fashioned sci-fi romp here was more interesting than the others. It’s also broken down and easier to read than some of the other Foundation books.

I'm conflicted. By the end I appreciated this book, but my goodness, the beginning was mind numbing and almost all conversations felt repetitive. I almost DNF so I can't justify anything higher than this, but I'll at least bump it from one to two.

The worst entry in the series so far. It read like a old man's dirty fantasy at times, a bit formulaic/repetitive.

At two occasions the main protagonist seduces a woman, sleeps with her and as a result she falls in love and saves them from a trap.

The book repeats the following story multiple times: -> go to planet -> get in trouble -> find a clue -> miraculous escape -> repeat.

It does make a bit more sense reading this again after 'Foundation's Edge'.
Spoiler But the reason to choose Gaia is because of a future threat? Gaia, the life-loving entity, chosen to ward off future violence and destruction?

More of the sexism that I saw in Foundation's Edge but a better overall read even though the conclusion came about rather abruptly and wrapped things up very neatly. Having said that, I did feel compelled to finish this story and felt a resurgence of the love I had for science fiction novels when I was younger. I still like the original trilogy the best but now I will turn my attention to the two prequels. Fingers crossed for two good reads!

Picked up the story quite a bit after Foundation's Edge. There was a lot of build up, but the end didn't quite pay off. Middle was good. Ending a little disappointing.
