A dystopian thriller starring a very unique girl, a genius with some extremely "special needs". Best audiobook narration I've heard all year to boot.

I was completely ready to read about a typical 'Walking Dead' type of novel. After I became accustomed to the science talk and explanation, the entire concept was thoughtful. It was difficult to comprehend at first, but after a few re-reads I think I grasped the idea Carey was aiming toward. Melanie's perspective is what really kept me entertained throughout as well as Sergeant Park's character development.

I feel like I've walked through a desert for 90 days, and can't write a review because I want to put this behind me. Man, did it only take me 5 days to read it? Feels like a month has passed.
Nothing kills my enjoyment of a book like extreme boredom and snail-like pacing.
More than half of these voices sound robotic and have no personality except for a single trait that defines their whole character. The plot is off to a good start but then we're faced with 300+ pages of walking.
The zombies and their origin made for an interesting concept which later fell flat as we get little information and things that push the plot forward.
I'm still on the hunt for an adult book that excites me.

Really liked the beginning and seeing the world through Melanie’s eyes, but the second half felt too much like a traditional zombie novel to set it apart for me.
