I knew from the chapter I wasn’t going to like this, but I gave it a chance to see how it would unfold. Daisy had the self-confidence of an ant. She meets a friend who broke her heart years ago and agrees to be his pretend girlfriend? Ridiculous. She criticized herself nonstop from start to finish. The romance was kinda cute, but the storyline felt played out and their lack of communication was infuriating. She finally started to find her courage, but only in the final chapter/the epilogue and that made enduring forty chapters of that feel like too much. I only picked it up because of the cover, and unmistakably, the saying still holds: never judge a book by its cover.

a very cute, lighthearted read! i enjoyed the story but i did feel like something was missing. i think the writing was okay. some moments could've been more fleshed out and descriptive and i also wish the miscommunication wasn't as dragged out as it was. i was getting a bit annoyed with daisy's constant doubt. while i love cheesy scenes and dialogue, i did feel like some parts of the book were a bit dramatic and corny. i loved what liana cincotti did with levi's poem though. definitely my favorite touch to this book :)

I wanted to love this. I really did. The setup had all the rom-com ingredients: fake dating, childhood besties, and a heroine named Daniella Daisy Maria who practically screams “quirky main character energy.” But somewhere between the West Village bar and the staged wedding photos, the spark fizzled.
The emotional beats felt recycled—like watching a rom-com on 1.5x speed with the subtitles slightly off. Levi, the love interest, was charming in theory but never quite stepped off the page. Their chemistry? More lukewarm latte than slow-burn sizzle.
And while the book tried to juggle grad school stress, resurfacing feelings, and self-worth, it often defaulted to cliché instead of depth. I kept waiting for Daniella to have her “I choose me” moment, but she mostly just chose Levi... again.
If you’re into soft-focus romance with predictable arcs and Pinterest-worthy chapter titles, this might hit. But for me? It was like picking daisies in a field that had already been trampled.

Despite the grammar mistakes, I really enjoyed this book. It was cute, easy to read, and I absolutely adored it. The characters, the story…the ending. I loved it all. The relationships were so fun to follow (except Ethan), and I found myself completely invested.
I especially liked Daisy, she wasn’t your typical, basic kind of character, which made her stand out in such a good way. And Levi?? Total green flag. I loved him. The dynamic between them was funny, sweet, and always interesting. Another detail I appreciated was how each chapter opened with a line from Levi’s poem, it was such a thoughtful and sweet addition.
The story could’ve been a little more detailed in places, but overall, as a second book, it worked really well. I definitely enjoyed it.
