I picked this one up for nostalgia as I remember these books being read to me as a young child. As we follow Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle and into her world it feels magical. There is a lovely unassuming, sentiment to the way it was written. They still capture my imagination as an adult, and I will be looking out for other stories by the author.
My sister and I had all the Beatrix Potter books when we were kids, and I've recently come across them again. All I remembered about Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle was that it was my mum's favourite. (Mine was the creepy, horrifying Samuel Whiskers, where my sister liked Squirrel Nutkin best.) And rereading this one, I don't know what Mum was thinking. It's a hedgehog that does laundry. A particularly servile hedgehog at that, and there's only so much excitement one can get from a list of things to be washed. The illustrations, usually the best part of any Potter book, are more on the little girl than the hedgehog, which is basically dressed as a bundle of what she hasn't laundered yet.
It's pretty bloody bizarre, even by Potter standards, but even so it's just not very interesting.

I’ve just realised that they are all connected in some way and Mrs Tiggy-Winkle is the adorable granny figure to all of the characters.
This is a gorgeous and heart warming book that is loved by small children and adults alike. I absolutely loved rereading this book and it feels me with such happiness.
Mrs Tiggy-Winkle is such a lovely character that helps everyone that she knows but it just quietly working away in her little home in the tree in the woods. She is helpful, kind and very caring of others. We should all be a little bit more like Mrs Tiggy Winkle.

This particular tale shows well the simple magic of the rural idyll: the ability to wander at whim and come across simple pleasures. Features cameo appearances from a few beloved favourites. :)
A lovely wee tale about a washerwoman hedgehog.
