It has a lot of potential, but it's not great so far. I liked enough about it that I'll probably read the next one. The dystopia plot and worldbuilding take a backseat to romance, which isn't always a bad thing, but I did feel like what was there outside of the romance was very thin and moved too quickly to care much about.

I liked a lot about the protagonist and the erratic voice of her narration (I know that this is apparently a polarizing aspect of the book, but it really worked for me!). I preferred the early chapters where she is dealing with her isolation and loneliness, something that I feel like isn't addressed in a satisfying way later in the book - she just sort of feels better because she's got Adam. On the other hand, he is the first person to be able to touch her, and this is the first in a series, so maybe something will happen later to make her realize that being in love doesn't magically fix trauma.

I know from the TikTok stans how this love triangle is going to play out, and I'm very curious to see how Mafi is going to play it.

I read it in a day! I just couldn’t put this book down. I will admit part of that reason is because I saw on Tiktok that so many people are Warner end game but Adam treats her SO much better. So I know there has to be a reason why everyone likes him more, unfortunately you don’t find anything out in the first book so maybe in the second one🤞🏽. Besides that, the plot is easy to follow and keeps you engaged, wanting to know what will happen next. Where Juliette’s story will lead, My favorite character is Kenji, he is so hilarious. I recommend reading this book! “You never asked for anything from anyone…But no one ever gave you a chance.”

While I'm still not 100% on the strike-out writing, Mafi's writing is beyond exceptional. Her words drip with the beauty of poetry and she generates such an incredibly vivid atmosphere. Every moment of this book felt perfect. The characters were so deep and raw and brutally developed, and the overall plot was perfectly wrapped in an inexplicably intriguing world Lore that dried out my mouth (in a good way) every time it was dipped into a little more.

Needless to say, this book deserves no less than 5 stars and I will be reading the sequel immediately.

Really interesting premise, love the dystopian future and limited abilities setup. The beginning really drew me in and I am excited to see what happens in the next book. I’ve seen spoilers online for elements of the series so I am very keen to understand how things develop from where we’ve been left in book 1! Cool writing style and well written.
