Yet another great Stevie Bell mystery! There are many players and events to keep track of in this particular installment, which keeps the reader guessing until the very end. There is some focus given to typical teenage angst and turmoil, which does take away from the all the murders but that's just because everyone is so painfully 17/18. Definitely a twisty mystery about close knit friends who are willing to lie for each other with an ending you'll never expect!

The first three were great, the fourth one was a good adventure. This one was good, but I guess I wanted a better ending.

Stevie goes abroad! Honestly, I felt like the setup was so intriguing. Nine friends go off on a weekend getaway, seven come back. But when the idea was finally put onto paper, I feel like Johnson focused on a lot of the wrong things.
For what this book does right, most of the main cast from Ellingham are still great to read. They're all solid characters who are easy to root for and against. With that said, I felt like a lot of the story was focused on their in-group drama, rather than the actual mystery that they're supposed to be solving. In my opinion, the main culprit of this problem was Nate. I felt like so much of the novel focused on giving him more depth after being a part of the series for four whole books. And tbh, I actually really enjoyed learning more about him. However, so much of the novel was spent detailing with these side stories that barely any time was taken to flesh out the actual suspects of the murder. As a result, when the culprit was finally revealed, it felt like it came out of left field because we barely had any time to get to know the details about the different suspects.
Overall, I'm giving this book 4 stars because nothing about it was BAD per se, but rather it had the potential to be so much more engaging than it turned out to be.
