this book annoyed me and i’m SAD ABOUT IT. i actually vaguely enjoyed it until about the last 100 pages: obviously it was not as good as the first 3 books, but i’m not the 15 year old who loved those books anymore either. the things that made the first three books so wonderful we’re largely non existent here. the romance between david and stevie needs fo stop, it felt pointless and upsetting honestly! the mystery was pretty flimsy and the book was a LOT of “ugh why can’t i figure this out, it’s been 200 pages and we’re all in the exact same situation!!” from the main character. the reveal came VERY suddenly with very, very little to hold it up, and then we didn’t really get to find out what happens in the end!! did they prove it was who it was? we’re they arrested?? did they come after stevie for outing them??? who knows? certainly not us! also there’s no wayyy someone could commit two axe murders and then come back into the house not at all covered in blood??? they didn’t change their clothes or anything!!! it’s an AXE murder!!! there was blood on the CEILING. COME. ON.

For some reason I was so invested in this book, though it was obviously a retelling with different characters. I loved the nine as a group of friends and wanted to learn more about them. It was interesting to see all the crew trying to navigate the scary decisions of college. I feel as though we’ve gotten more perspective on the main group except for Janelle and violet. They seem to be developing on theiri own outside of Stevie and she is too crime obsessed to notice.

I almost threw the book across the room.  What the heck kind of ending was that?!
