The first act is a truly painful slog, but then the mystery sort of picks up pace.

Spoiler
Maybe I've lost the patience for young adult novels as I age, but the David character betrayal felt kind of cheap in the last few pages. I do think she's setting Stevie up for some major confidence/direction in life, but there's a way to go about it without spoiling another character.

I liked this one better than the previous one, the box in the woods! The plot and mystery were fun but the David thing? I always disliked him with a passion lol Damn i thought this would be the last book but nope! I'll read the next tho

this was more boring than the other books in the series.

honestly there were too many characters in that group that was the focus of the mystery so when everything was revealed I didn't even remember who anyone was to be shocked.

BUT the ending!! ugh i know there will be other books in the series (but there is currently no release date) so she had to do something to want people to continue reading but its so annoying to end it that way. i don't know if i care enough about the characters to continue anyway.

I really wish Americans would get an English proofreader if they're going to write English characters. English people say grill not broiler.

Apart from this the book was okay, the pacing was a lot slower than the other books in the series and I wasn't very invested til around 60%.
