I read this recently and really enjoyed it. I can see why some people say that nothing much happens but to me it wasn't that simple. Seeing the two characters circle each other at various points in their life, was incredibly interesting and at times upsetting. Emotions are conveyed in such simple prose that it would be possible to miss the power behind the words. The scene that stood out most for me is when Connell realises the true power her holds over Marianne, both physically and emotionally. Absolutely breath taking.
