Well finishing this to see the news alert on icbms was not ideal. Enlightening as it is horrifying about the realities and responses if any nuclear weapon was fired.

This was the most challenging boon I’ve read. Annie Jacobsen does an amazing job laying out a doomsday event that is, so far, only a scenario. She put in the time and effort to conduct interviews and research the science, politics, and technology at the heart of nuclear armaments.

I feel that this should be required reading for our politicians. It’s the modern day equivalent of standing behind them, whispering “Remember, you are mortal.”

No other book will make you seriously consider moving to the Amazon rainforest and hoping to God that one of those communities will take you in and let you live amongst them, because they are the only group of people on the planet who might have a chance at surviving a nuclear war. Everyone else is either lucky enough to die immediately from a nuclear bomb or suffer an excruciating death in the aftermath.

This was an absolutely harrowing book that everyone should read.. but as a warning, you will certainly lose any blissful ignorance that you currently have about nuclear weapons and the carnage they are capable of.
