Det jeg likte med denne var jeg-personen, og hans erindringer av hans tid i Argentina. Det jeg ikke likte like godt var fortellermåten, evt. oversettelsen.

Inspiring and charming, with a few passages of reflection that are incredibly insightful and moving.

I wish this book was more about Juan Salvador and less about a twenty-something living in Argentina in the 1970s.

This book was a delightful journey to another time and place (though it did make me cry at points!), through the eyes of a young man and the penguin he rescues. The interactions of people with the penguin range from adorable to relatable, and the narrative has a charming storybook-like quality.

Heerlijk boek over een Engelsman die in Uruguay een pinguïn redt en meesmokkelt naar Argentinië, waar ze een vriendschap opbouwen. Fijn boek voor tussendoor, precies wat ik nodig had.

This is a touching and, on the whole, charming memoir about a young Englishman in 1970s South America who rescues a penguin from death by oil pollution and ends up bringing him home, transforming life at the boarding school in Argentina where he teaches. Michell must be quite elderly by the time of writing, and some outdated views show quite cringily at times (including fatphobia), and there’s some editing/structural issues, but still a pleasant read.

This must be the sweetest love story I've ever read (edit: this requires the broadest definition of love story and love you can think of).

It's a heart-warming and charming story from beginning to end, while it still manages to highlight important topics such as the political and economic situation and how it influences people, the environment and how we treat animals, and the importance of being someone. It covers the simplicity of everyday life and the need to explore in a different setting than most books.
