I enjoyed this book for exactly what it is which is a fun, gay, romance. Not life changing but cute nonetheless.

I really wanted to love this book. At times it was the perfect, captivating romance I love to read, but at other times I seriously contemplated marking as DNF. I am not well versed in American politics/political processes, nor am I at all interested in these topics. There were sections of the book that were too heavily focused on politics for me to understand the nuances, often leading to me almost losing interest completely. On the flip side, the romance was cute, quirky, and captivating.

It wasn't my cup of tea, not that I didn't get some good laughs out of some jokes, but it's just not my favorite genre. I don't typically read romances because it feels like the character's personalities turn into being all about a relationship (typically they lose that uniqueness). Although this book did a good job at really making sure that the characters stick with their differing personalities, I just wish there was more build up before they got together. If I am remembering correctly, they get together about 30% of the way through the book. I would just love more interactions with them before confessing so I could have slowly fallen in love with Alex and Henry and really understand what they saw in each other prior to getting together :/. I could be bias because I'm a huge fan of friends to lovers with romance as a sub plot....
Oh also note, it's very political, hence the title. Which I did oddly enjoy!

I had high expectations for this book due to all the hype surrounding it and it did not disappoint! This was such a fun, cute story, and I absolutely loved it! Henry and Alex's dynamic together and relationship was so well written, and I loved the dynamic of all of the friendships in this too! 
I listened to this as an audiobook and it was a really engaging and easy listen which I liked.

Casey McQuiston first wowed me with I Kissed Shara Wheeler, then again with One Last Stop and now Red White and Royal Blue is one of my favourite books. The storytelling, the character development, the depth each character holds is all amazing. The writing is sad but hopeful,  joyful and beautiful all at once. The characters are so so loveable (like all MQuiston novels) and I would 100% recommend Red White and Royal Blue. Also it’s a crime the film did not include June.
