Beautiful, exciting page turner. It is the best fairytale retelling I have read, and I don’t usually enjoy the mix of medieval fantasy and real modern world. But it’s about a kind of character I had never met before: a fatally sick one, and the writing is beautiful, flawless. You should read it.

I'm not typically a big fairytale person, but this is a fun and modern retelling! I would definitely recommend it even if fairytales aren't your thing. Great narrator for the audiobook, and a quick read. Some badass women characters. LBGTQ+ rep.

I went into this book hoping for a quick read. While that was true, I never thought 120 pages could elicit such a reaction and leave me speechless and ready to pick up the next book.
I loved how this story was empowering, giving the power back to the princesses (literally) and giving them the strength to try to change their story. The friendship between Zinnia and Charm was beautiful, while complicated. The trust and love between them brought me so much joy. And the ending was very satisfying. Did not feel like a short little read, but was so much more.

I liked this book more when I finished it than I would have guessed half-way through. I think there were a lot of points where the humor was trying too hard. like it really wanted to be cool and in on the joke and it ended up having references that I don't think will age super well. But in the end the growth and the message were just really lovely, and I got teary eyed several times, and I will probably pick up the next one in the series at some point.

Also as someone who works for Pfizer in R&D I feel like she was unnecessarily mean about us. That probably would have been a great internship

I’ve loved every book I’ve read by Alix E Harrow and this definitely makes the list too! I love a good fairytale retelling and haven’t read any sleeping beauty ones so I was excited for this.

I really liked the main character Zinnia and her friendship with Charm and their text conversations. I felt this had a nice blend of fairytale and real life. It handled chronic illness well in my opinion without having an unrealistic ending. I was invested from beginning to end. It’s a nice quick read as a novella! I would have read more and enjoyed further development of these characters but I was content with what’s here given the format.

Favorite line: “Well Harold, I say gently. They’re lesbians” I’M SCREAMING.

I’d recommend this if you like novellas,  fantasy and cute wlw rep.
