Great story, lots of fun to read. Obviously, you need to have read the Green Ember first, this book won't make much sense unless you do, but if you have, this is kind of a novella getting further into Jo Shank's story as it follows alongside that of Heather and Picket. Our family loved it.

A very fun story. I love the main series so much, and this is a fun little addition.

We loved this little book about Jo Shanks! We’ve come to enjoy these in-between stories and appreciate the background of some other characters.

Read aloud with my 12 year old and we both enjoyed this short and sweet adventure and now feel primed to begin Embers End after a year long Green Ember break.

My only complaint about this book is when I read it, so not a complaint about the book at all. I wish I had read it in its proper place in the Green Ember universe. I would have enjoyed it more that way. However, this is a solid entry into SD Smith’s world of Natalia, and will remain on my bookshelf long after my children have left home. Maybe I’ll be able to read them to my grandchildren.

The Last Archer was my favorite of these short stories that have come in-between the main series books, keyword - was. This book was an amazing sequel to The Last Archer. Jo Shanks is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters (spoiler for Green Ember IV from the preview in The First Fowler) I’m stoked to see Jo as a main character in the next Green Ember book. That means these side stories with Jo are essential reads.

A fun side story that allowed us to spend some more time with one of our favorite characters - Jo Shanks. One of the things that I love the most about these books is that I enjoy reading them out loud to my boys just as much as I do reading them for myself.
