Unlike most books I've read these days, it had an actual story.
I think one of the things that makes a book amazing is how closely it mirrors real life, and that book just felt so real. The protagonist’s issues in life, how she responds, the way she treats those around her in relation to her past... Even the other characters too. I feel like every character I was introduced to had some depth and importance. No one was just a convenient plot device. Even the minor characters were introduced so well and you understand why they did what they do. Katie's was so genuine and not at all forced (like in some books). I don't know how to exactly describe the book. It just really feels real. It's life. I'm so amazed. Really, really amazed. The characters are all so human. That's what makes this book so different, I guess. Everything's so believable. It's not overwhelmingly perfect. Life's not like that; no one is like that. People have flaws -- that's real life. The narrative is so real -- about dreams, life, relationships, problems, experiences.
It was so good. So, so good. I don’t know how someone could possibly get what I mean without having read the book, but really, everything just feel so real and so human! I feel like I actually learned a lot from reading this book, you know? Like, learned from their experiences. I learned about life. The book's worth a read, no matter how different your tastes in books might be. I feel like I might be rambling already; I'm just really not good with words. I really liked this book much more than I expected I would.
(and if you would notice, I didn't comment on the steamy scenes -- because yes, they were all good, but the book went waaaaaaaay beyond just that. it had meaning and i choose to focus on that.)
- yes, she's the daughter of a billionaire but all her life she thought he abandoned her! of course she'd resent him! of course she'd rather be with the guys for money than accept a job from the father who she thought didn't care about her! is it difficult to understand that?
- i can't believe even her dream of wanting horses and a stable is being made fun of. oh my god. it's her DREAM. we all have different dreams. you really gonna shame someone for not liking conventional things? you think that's a pre-schooler's dream? katie's giving you the finger over from fiction land. samson's giving you the hoof.
- her wanting to have a baby was a wonderful and meaningful character arc!!! she wasn't forced into it, she didn't think she was exchanging it for anything; she genuinely wanted to have a baby with them. she was adamantly against having babies, yes, but she changed her mind. she was able to fix her relationships with the people around her. she realized how good their (katie, rick, carl) relationship is and how good the guys are. with that in her life, she changed her mind. she, a woman of sound mind and body, wanted to have a baby with them. ok?
I just really felt like I had to defend some points of the book because honestly, the book's just so meaningful. Comment about the steamy scenes all you want, whether you liked them or you were disgusted by them, but sincerely see the plot beyond the sex.

Definitely not a conventional romance. Characters were fun and it was an okay read for me. I just expected more drama or conflict but it just resolved almost too rationally. Like there was legit hate and scorn between the sisters that just disappeared. It didn’t need the family conflict if there wasn’t any real drama, it could have just focused and build the main three as a relationship. It already had the boss/intern trope. I personally would have liked more of a structured villain, instead of people able to talk and work out problems.
The main problem was the book is to realistic or trying to be, that caused it to feel less genuine to me.
Oh, and some spice but with the cover I thought it wasn’t going to have as much plot as it did. And Horses. There’s a lot of horse talk.
