I don’t know why I read the second - the first was okay but left off on a cliffhanger.
It was … fine.

Pardon my French. But…..Bruh. What the fuck.

This book gave me whiplash in the best way. I definitely should have started this one sooner. It was hard to remember what happen on the first one. But it eventually all came back with googling.

Also, the book had a preview of chapter 1 of book 3 (WHICH BTW THOUGHT THIS WAS A DUOLOGY) and what the f u c k.

Roanhorse knocked it out of the park, yet again.
I enjoyed this sequel as much as the first book, and even more in some bits.
The political intrigue and tension are masterfully crafted, and the intimacy of the narration made me care about and feel for the characters.
Worldbuilding keeps on expanding and being awe-inspiring.
At moments exciting and heartbreaking, the series is becoming one of my all-time favorites.
I cannot wait to see how everything ends!

Such a great series: a unique fantasy world that feels large, varied and populated with distinct, interesting characters, combined with an engaging mix of political intrigue and rich lore and a central conflict that has layers and tendrils that pull all of it together.

I've listened to the audiobooks along with the ebooks for both this and the first book, and they are excellent as well.
