I was hoping for more mermaids and less pining. Happy to see more of some side characters from the first book though.
This is the second book in the Between The Earth and Sky duology - I won't give much away in regards to the plot, but I don't read a ton of full blown fantasy, and the first book, Black Sun was one of my top books of 2020. Book one ends with a bang, and this one jumps right back in to our characters following the events of the convergence - it is busy, there is a lot going on with our characters and a few new ones and plots introduced. I loved the tension when our main characters came together. While a lot happened in this book, it felt like it was mostly setting up for the next book (totally fine for a book two) just a little more of a transition/middle book!
Naranpa did whaaat???
Very Game of Thrones vibey. But like something I actually want to read and continue reading. Sorry not sorry George Rawr Martin.
CAN’T WAIT FOR THE THIRD BOOK!

Is it me or did absolutely nothing happen in this book?
Don’t get me wrong, it was a solid read. I’m still in love with the world and the characters but after finishing reading The Black Sun I was awestruck and the sequel just didn’t hit the spot.

I love this world so much!
I will admit that I still love Black Sun more, but this was a fantastic next installment in the series!
Xiala is still bae, lol. Really enjoyed a certain sun priest's journey in this one, and all of the political intrigue.
Really hoping the next one goes the direction it seems to hint at!

3.5/5 a bit of a second book slump as we move the pieces forward but still really intrigued to see where it all ends.
Y’all, I so enjoyed this book. Miles ahead of the first one!! Roanhorse excelled here with character and plot development, and I particularly loved the advances we saw across the political world here. Very excited for book three!
I listened to the audiobook version of this and it was as fantastic as the first one!!
