I enjoyed this book. I was definitely brutal and hard to read at parts but I loved how it stayed true to what slaves would have had to go through in that time period. It did feel a little too modern at times but all in all was a good little read, I can't wait to see what the rest of the series has in store for Amara and her friends.

4.5 stars and only because the nature of the premise is so despicable, it could be hard to read at times. The men in this book made me sick, I was rooting for the FMC so hard I devoured the pages. Very well paced and excellent writing. Don’t know how the next books could be more heartbreaking.

I feel like the world building is extremely lacking and in a book like this, based in a different time period, it’s a bit hard to get engaged. Also, the characters are just sort of there.
