I would like to thank Hachette Book Group and Grand Central Publishing for sending me a copy of this book! In exchange, here is my honest review of this book. I really enjoyed reading this thriller and the switching POVs and timeline enhanced the suspense and mystery of the story. The beginning of the story felt pretty slow to me and took a couple of chapters to get to the inciting incident, but I understand that those chapters were necessary buildup to the action. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and rated it 4 stars. I was hooked throughout the book and I was rooting for Hanna and Sasha to succeed.

Hanna has not talked to her family for a while, but one day she sees her families’ home is a scene of a terrible crime. She tries to get ahold of them but can’t and it seems like they have completely disappeared.
The best way to describe this book is potential, as in it had a lot of it. I loved the way it hinted at a big secrete throughout the book, but it started to drag on by the end. It was fast paced and at times kept me on my toes. The premise was a great idea and most of the time it was done right. The jumping between characters was not as smoothly as it could have been. Overall if you like drama this book might be a good fit for you.

All in all solid thriller, but sadly, the darker tropes were somewhat under-utilized. It also should have been edited a little harsher - cutting about 200 pages would've improved the plotlines. If the final stretch had started about halfway through, it wouldn't have lost most of it's tension.

Thank you to Grand Central Publishing for my gifted copy of The Night They Vanished for review.
Author Vanessa Savage's third book is hard to put down - I whipped through it in a couple of days.
Hanna's family is missing - her sister Sasha, father and step-mother. Gone. She's been estranged from them since she was a teenager, but once their home shows up on a dark tourism website stating it's the scene of a murder, she races to check on them. Townsfolk report they left two months prior, but they're not in the new location either.
Chapters alternate between Hanna, and her sister Sasha in the months leading to their disappearance. Hanna has a storied past in her hometown and tries to uncover not only the whereabouts of her family, but who knew of the events from years prior.
The story is fast-paced yet the reveals are measured - I was left guessing until the very end!
