"Her body is immortal, or rather it's died so many deaths in so many men's stories that she fears no longer. She is a ghost, inhabiting this body. She wonders if she can ever die." -- Loved it <3

I enjoyed this new to me perspective on the American west. The story of 2 siblings finding their way in a hard and beautiful land.

Excellent reimagining of the Gold Rush/Wild West era through the lens of a Chinese immigrant family searching for a sense of identity and home. I loved the elements of Chinese mythology and magical realism throughout the book. I think there are many parallels to Tea Obreht’s recent novel “Inland,” although this is certainly a faster read.
Small trigger warning for descriptions of death and a corpse early in the novel (not a spoiler).
