So I decided the do this challenge where I read the 5 lowest & highest rated comics on my tbr...maybe it wasn't a great idea because this was genuinely bad.

Black Baptism manages to show off many common issues of event comics: too many characters, convoluted plot, bad pacing, inaccessibility. I wish the problems stopped here, but there's more: pretentious, nonsensical narration which is also near illegible due to the font and the color choice. It also takes itself too seriously and has mediocre art complete with over-sexualized female characters. Definitely reminiscent of the 90s or the prevalent criticisms of that decade of comics.

Did nobody notice how hard this is to read? Also using big words doesn't make writing meaningful or thought provoking.

Honestly, this is one of the prime examples of an artist trying to get away with drawing a naked woman without actually drawing a naked woman. But of course there's nothing wrong with how female characters are portrayed in comics. Also, this Enchantress costume is a travesty, even in less revealing versions (and ofc it's designed so it's hard to do that anyway).

I rarely say "don't read this" as my dislike of a comic doesn't mean others won't enjoy it but I can't think of a single positive. All four issues were a slog to get through, I genuinely got nothing out of making it to the end. Or any part before the end. Well, unless you count finding out Faust has a son but he does nothing save for thinking the terrible narration up and talking to his unconscious girlfriend(?). Cute.
