This was such a good read and also, deeply disturbing and emotional. It is a fictional story of sibling addiction but at the same time, it has the drugs as main characters themselves. That took some getting used to and felt gimmicky and silly at first but then I fell into the deeper meaning and was able to fully learn and feel the emotion of addiction and the pain from this that is felt by families and the cycle continuing. Hard but good and important read. Surprised it’s YA!

There was a point in this book where I thought I was going to like it as much as some of Neal Shusterman's other books (I loved the Arc of a Scythe trilogy and Dry) as it was easy to get invested, but after a while it got repetitive. I used to be someone who kept up with the author's releases but I'm not sure that I still will given how widely my opinions on his different books vary

Berauschende Lesereise

Beschreibung:

Extremely disappointed by the portrayal of Adderall, as well as of ADHD. I don't think this was their intention, but the authors really imply that people who have ADHD and are prescribed medication will abuse it, when people who abuse Adderall usually do not fall in those categories. Where the hell was Ivy's doctor? How did she "up her dosage" when the book never indicates she used less than legitimate means to access her medication?

I feel like it's a cool idea in theory to portray drugs as gods. But I can't think of a way to execute this concept without inherently moralizing these drugs, simply by giving them personalities. I'm still not sure what to make of the idea that a drug can fall in love with a person? What does that mean?
