I really want to give it 4 stars. But the schizophrenic style of story telling and some arcs filling in too quickly while others drag on, put me off in bits and parts. I think I will like the series once it's all put together.

I found it slow and confusing in the beginning. I enjoyed looking at the map and family tree. Near half way through the book I found it really enjoyable. The book wasn't predictable, which was a feature I enjoyed about it.

I absolutely loved The Ruin of Kings for the most part, and I'm so glad that I stumbled upon Jenn Lyons' A Chorus of Dragons series while I was browsing on Amazon recently. The A Chorus of Dragons series has great characters, an intriguing premise, and well executed world building. Plus, I really love the tone and style of Lyons' writing, especially when it comes to the fact that her writing has a slightly humorous tone to it at times. The two things that kept The Ruin of Kings from being a 5 Star / 10 out of 10 book for me is the fact that Lyons' writing and world building was so detailed, and the fact that the plot jumped around to different points in time was definitely all a little overwhelming and difficult to keep everything straight at times. Those elements of the book made it so that it did take me a while to get used to Lyons' writing style. That being said, The Ruin of Kings is still an awesome book for the most part, and I'm already planning to continue on with the A Chorus of Dragons series! :)
