You Were Gone

Tim Weaver

4.03 AVERAGE

I would have enjoyed this book more had I not picked up the 9th in the series instead of the first, which is entirely my fault. I felt like I couldn't get into the story. But thank god I stuck with it because it got good. A woman walks into a Police station and claims to be the dead wife of an Investigator who buried his wife years before. Who are we supposed to believe? 3 stars

4.5 stars from me!
Brilliant book by Tim Weaver. Considering it’s quite a long read, I was on my toes the whole time. Extensive twists and turns which kept me guessing throughout, sometimes I thought I’d worked something out and then another curve ball was thrown into the mix.
The storyline was interesting and frustrating (in a good way) and had me as the reader considering every possibility. I wasn’t aware it was part of a series so I think I’ll be reading the rest!

This is another instalment in the David Raker series by Tim Weaver. Usually I find that when you so many books into a series that the story can be a little fragmented, as it reminds you of previous books or alludes to things you should know but only if you ve read the other books. I didn’t realise You Were Gone was part of a series until I read the acknowledgments at the end, which shows how good the writing is.
For those of you that don’t know the books following the story of David Raker have been on the Richard and Judy book club list and nominated for awards.
Tim Weaver also has a podcast that is on my saved list, Missing, which I am going to start listening to on the way home.
This instalment is around Raker personal life. He lost his wife 8 years ago to cancer but now theres someone who looks like her, acts like her, and tells the police that hes her husband. The local specialist confirms he has a history of blacking out and memory loss, which lead Raker to question his sanity. Is she really dead, or is he crazy?
I didn’t find the book fast paced, or a gripping page turner. It was slow and steady. Looking back I don’t think there were any clues to the ending, no obvious villain in the ‘whodunit’ and because it’s a series the conclusion isn’t complete., there’s definitely a lot more to come.

Fascinating read which constantly kept me guessing. I was not expecting the ending at all. I'm intrigued to learn more about identical strangers having read this book and also to read more of the David Raker series as I didn't realise this was book number 9. Would highly recommend.

Thought it was another great read but this one seemed to lack the intensity of the previous ones. Nevertheless I still loved it and will continue with the series. Has the usual twists and at times you do question the sanity of Raker. A nice new addition to the Met team as well with Field.

Another great book by Tim Weaver, so clever twists and turns that keep you guessing, a little slow in places but nevertheless a great plot and cleverly thought out.

The reason why i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the story seemed a bit farfetched by the end. A bit too dramatic. All in all a good thriller.

The twist felt so, meh. I don’t even know how to describe it, like it was good but I read the twist but there was no gasp or anything I was just like “oh okay then”
