My summary:
Kendra Ames is a TV producer on the hot seat of finding a main star for a dating show that she is producing. She approaches Lee Sullivan, a retired NHL star, to be the star—but they end up hitting it off with each other instead. And when an offer comes through from the network that will give them each their dream careers, Kendra and Sully have to manage him dating other women on TV while she produces it.
My thoughts:
For a smut book, I thought this was actually pretty great. Lots of smut (starting really early on, ya’ll) but it still has a plot. I read this in basically two sittings so obviously I liked it. It has also made me realize that it’s really hard to rate a smut book with kinks that are not your kinks, but I digress. I love the women-positive messages in here, which is not quite how I’ve found most smut books to go, and that on its own gives it a high rating for me.
I really like the angle of the new women’s professional ice hockey league. That whole story line was very female positive and, being that this league doesn’t exist yet but could, I loved the glimpse of what it would be like in the hypothetical future. I also like how strong Kendra is and her competency in her career and the respect Scully shows her.
This is a smutty romance. I didn’t see a list of trigger warnings at the beginning and I don’t want to list them all here because some are spoilers. If you’re sensitive at all or don’t like a lot of detailed smut, just skip this one. There are a lot of kinks here that are pretty cringey for me so it’s hard to not downgrade the overall rating for that, but I think it is still well written for being a smutty romance.
The author’s note at the very beginning details that she is a white author writing a black female main character. Given the criticism I’ve seen directed at so many other authors who have chosen to write main characters as different races or cultures than their own, I think it’s pretty bold. I applaud her reasoning and appreciate that she laid it out in the beginning, which hopefully dissuades some of that criticism heading her way. I think reading evokes empathy, and the more diverse the stories are, by any type of author, is a good thing.

Surprise baby. Hidden dating.
Yes daddy. Lactation K!nk. €um princess.
And a man who would jump through every hoop to be with the one he loves!

Ever since Lee “Sully” Sullivan was first mentioned in the Lakes Hockey series I needed his story and I am SO happy we got it. This was such a fun, beautiful and steamy read! In true Sloane style, she gives us strong characters you instantly fall in love with, amazing banter, an engaging plot and of course some seriously top tier spice.
Sully is retired from the NHL and looking for his next thing. When a friend sets him up to meet tv producer Kendra, to discuss a reality tv show, he knows it’s not for him and feels an instant connection with her and decides to peruse her instead. After spending the night together, they make plans to meet up again. But plans change when he gets offered his dream role, head coach, with the stipulation he must do the show. They start a purely professional relationship but when Kendra ends up pregnant, things change again…
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁: age gap, accidental pregnancy, forbidden, reality tv, he falls first, daddy kink, forbidden.
Kendra is such a strong, beautiful character. She’s independent and career focused and I admired the way she handled herself throughout this story and the situations that emerged. Then there’s Sully who’s caring, protective, loyal and deliciously dirty. He’s not afraid of his feelings for Kendra and is so steadfast in them. His love language was acts of service and the things he did for her, even small, had me melting for him constantly. Then when he went into full protective dad mode? Prepare yourself to swoon.
I adored the dynamic between them right from their first meeting. Sloane writes some of the best banter and it was here again between these two. I was smiling like a loon throughout. I loved how their relationship developed throughout the story and the way they became a team. Then the chemistry? WELP! If you’ve read Sloane’s books you know she writes some incredibly filthy hot spice and she’s delivered again here.
We get cameos from previous characters, particularly Barrett and Raleigh which I really enjoyed. The friendship and dynamic between them was amazing, especially the friendship Kendra developed with Raleigh.
This book marks the start of a new series and introduces us to the Rogues Hockey team, coached by Sully, setting us up for another amazing series. There are some really fun characters here and I’m looking forward to see where it goes!

I had a good time reading this one, I liked that Kendra and Sully hit it off right away and I really liked that there was no third act break up. The daddy kink was a bit too much for me and I did get annoyed by some of Kendra's decisions but otherwise it was great. It was cool to see some of the old gang again.

This was a super cute story. Sully and Kendra were so fun to watch fall in love. I love that they weather any negative situation together and by communicating. This also felt like it was setting up the next series. I can already guess who the main characters are going to be.
