I did enjoy this book. I think I would have enjoyed this book more if the book did not kill one of my favorite characters. But i understand why it had to happen for story stake. I enjoy how the book that took place during the school year did not really rely on school as focus and it was great read about senior year and what happens when you might be moving on but some of your friends are not. Thanks owl crate!
4.5 stars but I rounded up. Great read that really grabbed my heart.
Travis, Lydia and Dill live in what can best be described as a claustrophobic Southern town. Preparing to leave high school we start with the three best friends caught up in their own personal issues.
None of them have great lives, and they all seem lost.
I found the setting hard to take initially. The extreme religious focus, and the lack of understanding many of the characters show was really hard to take.
There came a point, as we start to get under the skin of the three characters, that I started to get more intrigued. Things didn't always take the obvious route and this was one of those books that got under my skin in ways I wasn't expecting.
Bleak in many ways, but there was an endearing sense of hope too.

I enjoyed this book so much and then it ripped my heart out and left me with a numb feeling. Really, I recommend this book to anyone, even if you're not in the mood for Contemporary stuff (like me) this is just really good. Here are the main reasons I loved this novel and also why it didn't get 5 but 4 stars: https://fangirlkilledbyfeelsblog.wordpress.com/2016/10/07/the-serpent-king-by-jeff-zentner-review
Stunning
Every once in a while you come across a book that takes you through the gamut. This is that book. Through the perspectives of three teens, you get a glimpse into life in a small town which isn’t ready for the force of these three.
I loved this book from start to finish and can’t wait to put it in the ha dis of others!

Heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I enjoyed this one, even if I did cry my eyes out.
A book that just gets better and better as you read it. You become invested in the characters and you champion them all the way to the last page.

I guess I'm gonna be in the unpopular opinion boat for this one because unfortunately I wasn't a real big fan of this book. :( There were definitely some topics in it that I've never encountered before which was interesting, but otherwise I had a few issues with this book that were difficult to overlook.
Not a bad read in my opinion, but not a great one either!
