The sixth novel in the Christchurch murder noir series deals with a vigilante killer,  who murders a number of people who played a role in ensuring the release of a man who murdered his child.  The novel is another example of Cleave's ability to perfectly balance black comedy and the elements of a macabre murder thriller.

The next Tate and Schroeder book was a bit of a slow start but then picked up the pace and I was thoroughly pleased. It's been some years since I read the first books in this series, but this book reminds us frequently of past events and it didn't take me long to remember the characters. This time there is a spree killing happening one night and Tate and Schroeder find out it is related to their first murder case years ago. We know who the killer is and the chapters alternate between the killer and Theodore Tate. A very enjoyable police procedural where the main cops often go rogue. I will continue to read Paul Cleave's books.

An excellent addition to the Tate series. I found it somewhat unbelievable that Tate would be reinstated as a police officer after being convicted of a crime and going to jail, but I was able to suspend my disbelief by assuming that New Zealand has different regulations than Canada when it comes to police officer eligibility. I found the ending opened up some interesting options for future books, and I can't wait to read the next one. Highly recommended.

From the very start of the book, the perpetrator is revealed. He is on a spree of revenge kills. After being released from prison he is avenging everyone that were “responsible” (in his own head) for what happened to his daughter.

It is a thriller that doesn’t make you question and suspect everyone. Yet it is still gripping and making you want to read further. 3,5⭐️ because the plot is quite average, feels like there are some similar books already.

IT WAS MIND BLOWING!!

So fast, so quick, so unexpected, so unforeseen, so full of surprises and such intelligently written. I am in love with this book. It seriously keeps the adrenaline rushing, like WOW!
I enjoyed every bit of the book. Each and every part was splendid. I seriously didn't want to end it. There were moments where I really had to just close the book and not read again because it was not bearable, but Paul Cleave has his way of keeping the readers glued.

In this novel of Paul Cleave, a story of vengeance has been told. A story to bring balance to the world. A balance of death and life. This time the slayer is a person named Caleb Cole. His daughter Jessica had been raped and murdered by a sick man named James Whitby, Caleb murders him but his thirst for vengeance doesn't end there... Fifteen years forward, Caleb is out of jail and is gonna make the bad people pay for his present condition and he is gonna strike like a bolt of lightning upon those who hadn't heard him, and who hadn't stood by him.
It is third installation in the Theodore Tate series, where he is going to be reminded of his very first crime scene, which was at the slaughterhouse...

Filled with great suspense, thrill, and secrets, this book, for me has stood out. It is just amazing! And to read Theodore Tate series again, it hasn't ever disappointed me, there is something in his character that makes him the best and the most wrecked as well as the most intelligent and quick witted but also at the same time an impulsive person, who is ready to shoot the person right away. Loved this book, loved his character and loved the story.

The criss crossing between the Theodore Tate and Joe books has my head spinning! I started reading Joe Victim, but it kept referring to events in this book so I had to stop and pick this one up.

Tate is a train wreck. You can literally see everything that is going to happen and how it's going to play out. It was insane.

I yelled at this book as I read it. When things took a turn that hampered the protagonist, I spontaneously cried out, "No. Go away, you idiot. Not now." It was so wonderful to be so engaged with the story that I could not contain myself. My promise of an early night was abandoned with the urgent need to finish the book.

The portrayal of my former home town made me ponder the things that lie beneath the surface. I look forward to reading more by Paul Cleave.
