Definitely more surrealist then I had expected, but redefines the dark academia genre and brings something entirely new. Not the most satisfying book, or generally the most easy to get through or understand (both in terms of the writing and the world), but a unique story whose surrealist elements stick with you.

I’m so disappointed in this book and I do not understand the hype. Maybe the book is too smart for me to truly understand what it was getting at and that is fine. I found myself bored, not creeped out at all and wanting more. Which makes me question myself when reading horror. 😅

I loved the way the author used words to describe things in ways that could be very uncomfortable. However after a while I just wanted to scream enough! I really enjoyed the first half 25% of the book. It had great potential. I loved Samantha at first and related to some of her feelings from when I was in my 20s but then she just became so, so, whiney. I couldn’t get invested in their story.

This book is a fever dream. I hated almost everyone in it and only finished it because the atmosphere is incredible. I was hoping for a story about women, it ended up
being one about women tearing each other apart because of a man.
Great premise, the execution was not my vibe at all.

Truth? I think I am still processing this book. It is dark, creative, and open to the readers interpretation. In short (because I absolutely do not want to give away plot spoilers) I will leave you with mean girls + loneliness + creative writing + some amazing phrases that left me pausing so I could write them down = one of the darkest Grimm's type Fairy Tales I ever could have NOT imagined by myself.

Not for everyone, but I liked it!
