one of the most prominent features of awad's writing is her language. her use of literary devices is skillful, and her descriptors are lush and immersive. truly, her words were almost rhythmic at times, and i loved the way the main character, samatha, is so perfectly characterized in this first person narration. in addition to the language, the climax in bunny was so visceral and wonderful. the only let down, for me, was the ending of this novel. for all this momentum, it just seemed like the storyline sputtered out at the very end. this novel is dense with metaphors, and because of this, some people might find this novel a bit hard to grasp or get through. however, if you are a lover of eloquence and complex, metaphor dense plot lines, this book is definitely worth a read.

The first couple chapters read like ‘The Secret History’ meets ‘Mean Girls’. The as you go on there is a lot more ‘Fight Club’. I agree with the reviews that this is an absolute fever dream, a literary masterpiece no doubt but it gave me a headache. I wish I could have studied books like this at uni, would have made my literature degree a lot less dull

I don't know what's going on. I don't think I understand this one. Like... at all.

What starts as a cross between Heathers and Dead Poets Society with Daria-esque characters, turns into a  mind-twisting tale where you’re not quite sure if you’re in a waking nightmare or not. Samantha’s unfortunate family life and outsider-ness lends itself to the underlying theme of “if you could create the perfect companion, would everything really be fixed?”
There’s so much to this book. I think I’ll revisit it. This feels like a Donnie Darko rewatch where you’ll find something new on each read.

What kind of a fever dream was that, Bunny?

Clueless meets Mean Girls meets a really bad trip, I could not put this down. Compulsive, claustrophobic, compelling and downright bizarre. I loved it.
