Such a great book and story. Captivating and love to go from Josie's story to Zoe's.
Learned a few facts about the second world war in North Africa I wasn't aware of and the author makes a great link with today's refugees and the horrors they have to go through for a chance to have a better and safer life.
Very emotional, well written and full of lovely stories.

The plot twist at the end of this book absolutely sent me. But the hope also made me cry.

I enjoyed this one a lot. Books set during war times usually are not my jam, but the setting of Casablanca intrigued me. The author did a good job with the setting in both timelines. That said, I far preferred Josie's sections of the book. I just didn't feel like Zoe was a very likable character. The other little niggle I had was the twist at the end. It felt thrown in for a shock moment, and I honestly just didn't see the point.

I really like the Casablanca location of this book. I have not read a WWII book that focuses on this location yet. So I enjoyed hearing the brief history of Casablanca. At some points in the story it felt like a travel/food log. I wasn't really drawn into any of the characters either. I thought I would be at the beginning of the book but lost that feeling as I got further in. The shockers at the end were a bit lackluster for me. I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

A captivating story of grief, hope and friendship during the war years, and in modern times, in Casablanca, a city romanticized by the movie. It’s a beautifully written story and I was pleased to read a World War II book that was set somewhere other than Europe.

If I were to nitpick, I found the ending a little too convenient, but that did not diminish my enjoyment.
