I remember finishing Catching Fire with THAT cliffhanger and not having my Movkingjay copy just yet. It was sold out in every single book shop in my small town, and to me online shopping was still a foreign scary idea, so I had to wait a whole month or so to get my hands on a somewhat damaged copy of this book.
Something I always adored about this trilogy is that Katniss’s monologues and inner thoughts are always so honest and raw, we feel her trauma, her PTSD, her trust issues and her fear. I believe this is why the third and fourth movies felt lacking, because Mockingjay is the book that hast the most psychological character exploration, we read Katniss and her broken mind and how she sees the world, how the hero and guilt complex grow and grow inside her until she almost kills herself after finishing Coin.
In a world where Game of Thrones existed the concept of main characters dying wasn’t imposible to me. But Prim’s death was so crucial for Katniss’s character arc, and for the story as a whole. Prim is why we go into the Hunger Games in the first place, Prim’s protection so what Katniss values most above anything. Killing her off was a stroke of genius on Collins side.
Such a great book series, a classic of our time.

Schade.

I have watched the movies more than 5 times, they never made me feel the way that I’m feeling right now after reading all the books, this was my first time reading the books and I honestly got no words.
The ending of this saga really made me stare at a wall for 10 minutes with tears in my eyes.
