Plot holes? Yes. Did it make me feel more hope than I have in queer love than I have lately? Absolutely. And cheers, a million time, to that indescribable feeling.
This is more of a 3.5 but we’ll round to 4 for all intents and purposes.
I liked this, I didn’t love it. It was angsty af, Charlie tried to do “the right” thing but it was a typical people pleasing response which was not my fave. I love how gruff, grumpy and stoic Miles was. He and Charlie made the cutest pair.
Jo was an absolute treat and I did NOT see her husband reveal coming whatsoever. Alma was….ehh I don’t know but I’m glad things worked out the way they did in the end

This was fine but the ending really dragged. The constant back and forth wasn’t compelling to me. Like Charlie marrying Alma wasn’t a bad thing in my view so the conflict didn’t feel that high stakes. I honestly just want a Jo book, I love a scheming lesbian.

These lovely lovely men! This destroyed me, and I want so much more.
This had me right from the beginning - meeting Jo, and there was no turning back after that. My heartstrings were painfully tugged at with every turn of this story. I’m so attached and I know I’ll be back in a couple of months for a comfortably lovely reread.
The sweetest queer community brought me back to the apartment building of One Last Stop, but tenfold. I just loved the way all these characters mingle together in great ways and I never wanted it to stop! I’m super excited to read the next book - David and Noah?!?!??
I loved both Charlie and Miles and their respective complexities and eccentricities. My favourite scene by far was Miles’ first time at the Curious Fox and man I hope these two get some page time and love in the next one!
I listened to the audio book version narrated by Tommy Hawthorne, which was lovely, but I think I might have to get my hands on some nice physical copies for this series.

It's not often one finds queer historical romance that feels authentic to the era while maintaining the tender warmheartedness I associate with the best of all historical romance. The things that Charlie and Miles have to go through to find their happily-ever-after are horrible and give the plot a nice dose of depth while never actually getting into the darker underbelly of the horror that was being gay in Victorian England.
The story of Charlie and Miles is one of opposites attract that turns steamily romantic once they realize that they complete each other beyond anything they'd ever dreamed of. Even with Charlie counting down to a marriage he has resigned himself to dreading and Miles traumatized by the loss of his lover, reading about them slowly opening up to each other and recognizing that what they have is special was a treat.
I loved everything about this and would to follow more of the character's stories, even the side characters are incredibly interesting and would definitely make a good story in Everlee's hands.
Delighted thanks to NetGalley and Carina Adores for the charmingly sexy read!
