Well I don’t know where to start....I was apprehensive to read this as the first and last Adele Parks book I’d read (and not finished) was not great (stranger in my home).

But I was delighted to have been proven wrong and enjoyed this book so much. It was gripping, heart stopping and a great page turner. The twists (lies) emerged at the right time.

Daisy was such an instantly likeable character and so was Simon despite his addiction. I felt their pain and their love for each other. There were points in the boom when I was shouting in my head at Daisy to stand up for herself just as you would watching an ITV Drama shouting at the TV. At points I was confused but had worked out poor Daisy had been a victim and she had done he upmost to protect her child as any mother would.

The one plot I didn’t expect was revealed whilst Simon was serving his time. My mouth literally dropped open and my heart was racing to keep reading.

The only gripe I have was the ending as I wanted more....

Big nope for this. I’ve only awarded stars on the basis that the topic of alcoholism was handled well as was some of the procedural prison stuff.

I nearly DNF this book about ten times. It’s slow, laborious and the ‘twists’ are dropped in so suddenly that you have to back track and check you actually read something correct. No suspense building. And the final twist is just obscene and so ridiculous I laughed out loud.

I really enjoyed this. Parks is able to show an honest approach to alcoholism and why people make the decisions they do. Lots of twists to keep me interested, although I did guess a couple of them! I've read a few by Parks and this did not disappoint.

I am 0/2 for Adele Parks. This was such a slow story and it wasn’t even believable, almost DNF’d. I can’t ever understand why husbands and wives are written to lie to each other constantly; it disgusts me. These lies were so off the charts ridiculous and then it’s all fine and dandy? Wtf. Nope. And the worst part is that there’s a child involved in this whole messed up ordeal and ugh... I was left feeling so disgusted I won’t pick up another of her books.

Blahhh I only finished it because I was so far in.

Окейный семейный триллер. Сперва часа два главный герой спивается, и это почти невыносимо, но у меня, как часто случается, руки были заняты лопатой и граблями, и я не могла выключить книгу, о чем в итоге не пожалела.

DID NOT FINISH: 66%

For the first 150 pages I was hooked on the twists and turns of the book. But then the story  had a time jump and everything seemed to slow down and the more I wanted to read the more frustrated I was with Daisy and her lack of communication. Simon was just as flawed but his issues are explained throughout unlike Daisy where we're made to keep guessing. One day I'll pick this book up and try again as the book is well written but sometimes I find that I've read or watched too many crime or thriller stories that I pick flaws in characters and struggle to move past them.
