Popsugar 2021 Reading Challenge - Prompt 50: A Free Book from Your TBR list (gifted, borrowed, or from the library)

I read and really liked Adele Parks’ previous release I INVITED HER IN, so I was curious to see what she would come up with for us next. This is a difficult one because I do like her writing style and how addictive those short chapters are, but something just didn’t click for me.

The thriller and suspense genre seems to be saturated lately with books that feel repetitive and predictable. Or that could just be me because I mainly read this genre. Normally, it doesn’t really bother me when things get predictable because the twists are usually what set the book apart from the others.

This book had twists aplenty and at the end it felt almost like it was too many. I know that this is an unpopular opinion for this book, and there are so many glowing reviews. So I think this is more of a case of a me as a reader thing and not the book. If you want a really compulsive and quick read, then this is one you need to add to your TBR.

I can't in good faith give this more than 1 star. It's never OK to use rape as a plot twist, especially not when the author used it in such an emotionally manipulative way.

Adele Parks is one of my must pick up immediately authors and I happy to report she doesn't disappoint with Lies, Lies, Lies.

Told from alternating perspectives of Daisy & Simon, I felt for both of the characters throughout and the plot is addictive, I found it difficult to put down because I wanted to find out what was really going on.

Whilst that final twist will certainly shock, I personally felt it distracted from the rest of the story.

Overall an enjoyable, brilliant characters and an ending you certainly won't guess.

Thank you to goodreads for the advanced copy I won. For me this was a fast paced read but did take a bit to build up but that did help to set the scene for the wild ride of the mid to end of the book. I thought this was going to be a fairly straight forward thriller once some of the lies started to be semi-revealed. But it took a much different (& much more violent) turn to what I was expecting. Overall I did really enjoy it!

This book started off a little slow but I think it aided the build up and character development!

I really felt for both Simon and Daisy throughout and in different ways. It was a very interesting story which touched on some very sensitive topics but i feel it was handled well, and was the right way to address.

I see it being turned into a Netflix show pretty swiftly.

My rating is a 4/5... It doesn’t quite qualify for a 5 in my mind due to the way it ended on the last few pages. I also didn’t like how some parts of the story felt a little underdeveloped and dropped in without much explanation.

DID NOT FINISH

I might pick this up at a later time, but I couldn't even get to the "one night event that changes their lives" before I had to put it down. I was so incredibly bored and the thought of spending 11 more hours listening to this was daunting.

This book wasn't for me. I thought it was slow and I didn't like any of the characters. The ending kind of aggravated me too.

More like a 2.5. One of the slowest books I’ve ever read but there were a few twists to redeem it a little.
