Heaven Is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back

I rate this book highly for being an enjoyable, engaging, and fast paced read. Whether or not he truly saw heaven, it is a story that captured me, and I enjoyed it.
I was on a trip and finished the book I was reading and picked this one up. I was going back and forth about how many stars to give this because while I really enjoyed the story of how the Burpo family dealt with their child's serious illness and connected to that, I really remain skeptical about whether or not Colton visited Heaven and was put off by the Evangelical message that those without "Jesus in their heart" will not go to Heaven. So, I decided to say it was okay and go with two stars.
I'm giving this a 2 because I feel that it was a decent story. A quick, easy read, that felt super wholesome and I did enjoy it at times. However, I'm not at all convinced. The author many times claims that he didn't want to "lead" his son Colton by asking leading questions, but always did! Anyone who has worked with preschool age children knows that when you ask them a question like "Did you ever see God's throne?" they're going to give you a huge, thought out description.
Ugh.
Ugh.
I cried a little while reading this. It was a big gut check for me. This is an amazing book
There are some logic holes throughout this story that I am reluctant to address. To be succinct, I wasn't sold. It's not that I don't believe in some greater power. I do. I just don't buy the story that's presented here as being necessarily true.
Easy read, nice story. I picked it up at the library and I'm glad I didn't buy it. While I believe in God I'm not sure I believe this story, at least not in the context that Colton's preacher father presents it. A three year old has a near-death experience, starts bringing up stories about how he's seen God, Jesus, Heaven, his great grandfather he's never met, etc. I don't know, if this book was written by a former atheist maybe I would find it more believable (does that make me too cynical?) but it just seems too convenient that a preacher's three year old son has "been" to heaven.
This book is amazing and inspiring! God can change lives, using any of us!
Amazing testimony - inspiring for those looking to share the gospel
Colton went through a remarkable experience when he was only four years old. As he underwent emergency surgery, he also went on a journey—to heaven. His parents were astonished when Colton was able to tell them what they had been doing in the waiting room during his surgery. Over time, Colton slowly revealed details of what he saw and who he met while he was in heaven. He also spoke of meeting a sister in heaven (although his parents had never told them about their previous miscarriage), and he met a grandfather who had passed away 30 years before Colton was born. As months passed, Colton gave many more vivid descriptions of what heaven, Jesus, and the angels were like. In this book, Colton’s father, a small town pastor, tells the story of his son’s experience.
While this book may not appeal to skeptics, I found it to be an inspiring read not only because of the religious elements, but also because of the story of how Colton’s parents dealt with his illness and recovery. It provides a picture of a family that went through a difficult situation and came out of it full of hope.

Short and sweet. Good for a vacation read. Not as good as all the hype though.
