Gorgeous book, Dawkins answers many of the basic questions children and adults have- who was the first person? What is day and night? Why do bad things happen? with the power of science. Chapters typically start with several myths from different cultures that people have used to explain phenomenon before patiently explaining *why* things work as we know them- or, the magic of reality. It is a far, far better thing to find out why things work than to just toss them to the supernatural because that's giving up.
My only quibbles are minor- Dawkins using British spelling and lingo, which make sense since he *is* a British scientist... but I digress.
The art is excellent; Dave McKean has previously done work for Neil Gaiman's Coraline, covers for Sandman, etc.

Magia realității de Richard Dawkins, ilustrată de Dave McKean şi tradusă de Vlad Zografi, este un volum ce a stat ceva vreme în bibliotecă până să ajung la el. În teorie, este destinat copiilor de la 12 ani în sus, dar în practică, mi se pare o carte potrivită şi pentru cititorul adult care vrea să-şi reîmprospeteze memoria în ceea ce priveşte chimia, biologia şi fizica din liceu, dar într-o formă mult mai fain explicată decât o face programa şcolară 📚

Paralela dintre mintea umană din trecut, ce tinde să ofere explicații paranormale unor lucruri pe care nu le înțelege, şi aducerea în scenă în prezent a explicațiior ştiințifice şi a descoperirilor de-a lungul timpului a fost fascinant pusă în practică 🧩

"The Magic of Reality," is a superb and easy-to-understand introduction to science and the scientific method. Dawkins clearly explains biology, geology, and astronomy while infusing a sense of wonder and awe. Though the scientific reasoning isn't novel, the book stands out for its clarity and conciseness, effectively contrasting magical thinking with scientific fundamentals. It recounts various myths from around the world and then provides the scientific explanation. Charming and magical, it inspires a sense of wonder about the universe.

"If these 'holy books' really were written, or dictated, or inspired by all knowing gods, don't you think it's odd that those gods said nothing about any of these important and useful things?"
This is great book for children who are interested in science. Simple but how the author write it brings awe. I specially like how the Dawkins ends the chapters especially chapter 8.
I guess the downsides are the repetition of concept of time in early chapters and if you understood most of the concepts in the book. Nevertheless, it still stirred some feelings so overall, a great book!

It was an okay book. I enjoyed the myths at the front of each chapter and then the science at the end and I could understand Dawkins saying there is a certain magic in reality. However, he then goes off on one of his God rants. I am an atheist, I do not believe in God but his tone when he discussed it is dismissive, condescending and arrogant and it felt like he had an agenda. So what if some people want to believe in faith or miracles or fate? If it pleases them, let them do so. Mr. Dawkins, you do not always need to be right. Believe what you believe and let others do the same. Had you left out the last rant about miracles this book would have been better.
Great Book, similar to Einstein series of Robert Wolke. But it has smoother storytelling and myth addition. Very great for daily read
