My favorite of Abby’s of the four I’ve read. Wish I’d done the sensible thing and read in order! This was another moving story with some deftly handled dark topics. Emma’s trauma is  deeply ingrained and she doesn’t fully understand it but she is able to take control of it when she finally opens herself up, albeit at great cost. Justin has demons of his own, which he learns to tame with Emma’s mantra “always choose empathy over anger.” It’s what allows him to move past his disappointment and ultimately toward his HEA. I was on edge almost the entire book waiting to learn how the issue with Amber would resolve itself, and I’m so impressed by how it did. I’m glad it wasn’t tidy and that Emma got closure.

I respect that lots of people loved this, but it was not my cup of tea. I found little investment in the characters & their story, until the last quarter of the story. It was long and drawn out for me, and could have done without approximately 100 pages to deepen my engagement.
