Loving this book so far, it's been on my must-read for a long time and glad I got inspired to finally get to it.

This is one of m favourite books of all time. Not only do I love the characters but I could also really relate to the religious themes throughout the novel. This book made me so furious, but it also made me cry uncontrollably. It's a powerful story that is a must read.

This is a fascinating multi-layered story that took me through sadness, empathy, and fury. The pacing in the first half was slow so it took me a little longer than usual to finish. By the second half, I could not put the book down. I love how the author beautify weaves the stories together from each female perspective in a house run by a tyrannical preacher father.

What made the book impactful was learning about the impact of external interference (by the US and other western countries) on the people of the Congo and Angola. This lens made me see Africa in completely different light. I did feel, by the end, that Africa was a character herself. Beautifully written.

My favorite book.

I read this book in high school, or at least half of it for female literature. I remembered enjoying the different voices (character narration) and Ada who saw the world forwards and backwards. The book still holds up 20 years later. Still balled my eyes out. I kept thinking the book was going to end but it gives everyone’s entire life. Once you settle in to that, then the book is a great journey.

I read this book forever ago. I remember very little about it except that it took me about 100 years to read.
