A lovely book, despite all the heartbreak and guilt and despair throughout. I loved walking through the life of each character, and really enjoyed how the chapters were dispersed between each female character. I didn’t know going into the book that there was a depth of history, and so I enjoyed learning about the Congo and viewing its tribulations through multiple voices.

Really well written, but difficult to get through because of the pervasive sense of dread. Learned a lot about the African Congo, which is fun. Wonder how accurate the historical information is.
