There were some essays in here that I needed to read, like the one about being a step-mother and raising black boys.

I love the casualness of this book. Gabrielle writes the story of her life as if she is just having another conversation with the reader. She is so transparent, and she doesn't try to win you over necessarily or excuse her actions. She says it like it is and that's it.

I'm glad I picked up this book. I knew so little about Gabrielle as a person but have always loved her movies. This book, with her charming, down to earth, and no fucks given persona has only made me love her as a person.

I was thinking memoir when I started this and the flow felt a tad off. Then I looked again and realized it is "stories". That little fact and the sheer courage/honestly with which she shared bumped it to a 4.
This was a wild ride. Guns, racism, rape, love, infertility, motherhood, and a gentle sprinkling of Hollywood. I will most likely check out her other book of stories at some point. Much respect to this incredible woman.
