afhdsg this series continues to make me extremely happy. i love that mystery never turns tedious, that cooper and park's sleuthing never turns sloppy. and especially i adore how they insert these bits and scraps of romance in between their investigations.

a lot of things about werewolves aren't what i had expected and i love how adhara seems to bring new lores and traits of werewolves in this mix without throwing away the old concepts. like the AQ is such a brilliant addition and way of modernizing the old "belief" or whatever we knew of in terms of the werewolf things.

also ADORE how cooper came to his Oliver-is-it-for-me epiphany??

their romance is impossibly sweet and realistic. like that's such a rare, hard combination to execute properly. through the four books, their relationship progression was so steadily but sharply choreographed, from cooper reluctant and downright hostile to work with park, let alone like him to cooper house-hunting with him and having forever epiphanies and wildly running through rain-slicked woods to save park, is something to marvel at. it was so seamless and smooth and would leave you breathless. it just happens and you don't wonder how because it's pretty inevitable and adhara nearly let you die before letting them be with each other. the way cooper is allergic to emotions and hugs and touches and how park is so careful of his boundaries, how cooper is always so flustered over park's comfort and his needs how he fits into his world and his needs, how park complements him without ever overwhelming him is EVERYTHING. they are both so REAL. you won't find a hint of cringe in there love confessions, and yet you will find your lungs burn and yourself sprawl in a puddle of your feelings, which is a special kind of sorcery.

The books in this series seriously keep getting better, which considering the series started at 5 stars, seems improbable. As improbable as a hot, sexy, heartwarming hysterically funny romance between a cranky, cantankerous, snarky, loner Alpha human with anxiety and PTSD and the almost equally Alpha, dry-witted, generally zen-like emotionally controlled, former enforcer of one of the most powerful werewolf packs in existence. This is the best thing I have read in a LONG time and I hope there are many more books to come!

This installment sees Cooper Dayton and Oliver Park on loan from the Trust going undercover as a “personal favor” to Cooper’s former BSI boss. A lone werewolf has gone missing. Park’s past as an enforcer collides with his present and provides an opportunity to make amends of sorts. He once clashed with the missing werewolf Thomas Kreuger and Kreuger having to surrender his pack and his status to Park was pretty much destroyed. He became a pariah among werewolves; eventually settling in North Carolina as the handyman at….a werewolf couples retreat. Except now he’s missing and his former mate suspects foul play.

What could possibly go wrong? Really, it’s just a chance for Cooper and Oliver to have a 5-day vacation. It’s not like they actually need relationship counseling. It’s not like ever since deciding to buy a house together, Cooper hasn’t been completely freaking the fuck out over change, giving up his autonomy, fears of inadequacy and not being good enough and hating Park’s penchant for McMansions. Cooper and Park solve another interesting mystery with the usual plot twists and colorful side characters. Cooper stresses over his Alpha Quotient test, worried that he’s not what Oliver needs, and that Oliver thinks he’s “more” than he is; but when put to the literal test (not the pen and paper one that he's so worried about); as usual he shows his true Alpha potential to the rival “werewolf boss”: Cooper held De Luca’s gaze and leaned closer, voice barely above a whisper. “Look at me. If you even try to stop me, and something happens to Oliver, there is no place, no territory in the whole world where you’ll ever be safe again”.

I can not wait for more of Cooper and Oliver, their witty banter, their multiple suitcases packed chock full of issues, their friends and families filled with humor, love and dysfunctional dynamics up the wazoo and the mystery and intrigue that dogs their every step.

I'm absolutely in love with the series. 4 days, 4 books.

As for the character development, Adhara does not disappoint at all. The way the guys unravel their fellings is just delicious to witness. I loved how this time the book was significantly less angsty in the romance department.
The smut was once again too good and streamy. The way the guys open up and fuck each other to oblivious was just so satisfying to watch.

As for the mystery - I guessed the culprit fairly soon but it still did not erase all my doubts so I was still fairly surprised at the end.

3.5 stars, but I always round up. I love this series, but I had a hard time getting into the mystery for book four. I couldn’t get invested in the large new cast of characters in the same way I did with Oliver’s family in book three. Vanessa stood out the most from the new characters, but her storyline felt unresolved.

What truly made up for what wasn’t working for me regarding the mystery was the development of Cooper and Park’s relationship. The sex scenes are steamy and emotionally intense. Their communication is at its best, and their one step forward two steps back tango of a relationship finally reaches the next level. The stakes didn’t hit me hard for the mystery but I was completely invested in the stakes of Cooper and Park’s relationship. Just reading their banter alone is worth the price of admission.

I’m truly looking forward to book five even though I’m not ready to say goodbye to Cooper and Park. I loved watching their love story blossom into something authentic and beautiful.
