A cute little romance read. A little disappointed in how it was executed though. The main character was very annoying at times with the decisions she made because she COULD NOT communicate and then felt bad for herself afterwards. I also didn't like how the characters around her belittled her for her unique style. However, the main love interest, Wes, is *chefs kiss*. I'm a little sad that I didn't get to see more of them as a couple as I think that would've been really nice to see. I really loved Helena as a character, her and Wes made the book easier to get through. Some of the references through out this book I found a little out of place but still an enjoyable read overall, would recommend for the sake of a cute romance.

I wanted to read this book because I really enjoyed Mr Wrong Number and wanted to read more of Lynn Painter work.  I didn’t mind this book, but I felt like it could have been better with a bit more spice and in the adult world. But for a young adult book, I did enjoy it.

Liz Buxbaum is a perpetual daydreamer gave her hear to Michael a long time ago. But her cool, aloof forever crush never really saw her before he moved away. Now that he’s back in town, Liz will do whatever it takes to get on his radar and maybe snag him as a prom date, even befriend Wes Bennett. The annoyingly attractive next-door neighbour might seem like a prime candidate for romantic comedy fantasies, but Wes has only been a pain in Liz’s butt since they were kids. Pranks involving frogs and decapitated lawn gnomes do not a potential boyfriend make. Yet, somehow, Wes and Michael are hitting it off, which means Wes is Liz’s in. But as Liz and Wes scheme to get Liz noticed by Michael so she can have her magical prom moment, she’s shocked to discover that she likes being around Wes. And as they continue to grow closer, she must re-examine everything she thought she knew about love and think her own ideas of what Happily Ever After should look like.

This book is so flirty and fun. I love the aspect of like trying to find out who you are and all the makeover side of it. I love those scenes in movies. I loved Wes. I wish I had someone like Wes in school, I think it would have changed everything.  Everyone knows in high school it’s hard to be yourself, so I love that Wes was just trying to push Liz to be herself.  I love the fact that Lynn Painter isn’t afraid to write about hard discussing like losing a parent young. I wanted to hug Liz every time she went to the grave to talk to her mother.

I love this book; I would love for her to write a book with Liz and Wes as adult being friends with Michael and Laney with them living in California or something and being adults.

I don’t read YA much anymore but this book has me feeling like I might have to start.  Such amazing prose that took me back to girlhood and awkwardness and chasing the idea of something.  This book perfectly captures that funny/sad/frustrating teenage feeling.  The most touching parts of the book comes out through Liz’ grief over her mom and struggles to build relationships as she moves forward with a new chapter in her life.  Everything wraps up in the end perfectly.  A great read!
