This book was so stinkin cute, I had the best time reading it! I had some trouble concentrating on sitting down and reading recently so I listened to the audiobook and I devoured this book.
The story is about Liz who has been in love with Michael for a very long time. He did not really notice her before but now that he moved back to Liz's town she is determined to win his heart. She even asks her annoying neighbour Wes for help.
Following Liz on her journey to win her crush's heart was so fun! I also really enjoyed all the romantic comedy references and the importance and comfort they had on Liz.
Liz and Wes had such a beautiful dynamic and I loved their deep talks about their lives and feelings.
Helena probably was my favourite character and I was so sad at one moment in the book I just wanted to hug her. She was such a sweet person!
Better Than The Movies definitely is better than all the romcoms I've seen so far and I had a blast reading it. A very comforting and beautiful book.
Perfect for everyone who enjoys a highschool setting, enemies to lovers, movie references and a clean and sweet teenage love.

This book was such a fun and lighthearted read. I loved all of the rom-com references and cliches in the book. I definitely related to the main character and her love for rom-coms and waiting to find the one. Although, I guess this sucks for me because I’ve seen a lot of reviews talking about how much they hate the main character oof. I did think it was annoying how she was chasing after another guy for almost the whole book. Like, if I had a Wes Bennett anywhere near me, I would not be chasing after someone else.

I do agree with some of the reviews saying that Liz is insufferable. Like, I’m all for loving rom-coms and waiting for your movie moment, but sometimes it would get frustrating when Wes was right there and she still refused to believe it. Plus, she hurt everyone she loved and only accepted the consequences once it was beneficial for her. A little communication in this book could go a long way.

But, overall, I think it was a sweet rom-com. I would recommend it if you’re in the mood for a sweet and lighthearted read with a swoony love interest.

"Sometimes we get so tied up in our idea of what we think we want that we miss out on the amazingness of what we could actually have."

I've been curious about this author for quite some time now, but I wasn't quite sure if her books would be for me. I've been warned that her adult books are probably too steamy and to stick with her YA books, and I'm having the feeling this advice hits the nail on the head. I don't read a lot of YA anymore, but I can totally understand why Better Than The Movies is so popular. This is such a cute fake dating romance and basically an ode to romcoms, and I really enjoyed my time with this story. I loved the many romcom quotes at the beginning of the chapters as well as the references to movies and music in the story itself. They worked so well with the plot as well, and I liked the little something extra it added. I loved the whole enemies to lovers, childhood friends to lovers and fake dating elements this story had, although the love triangle vibe was a tad too strong for me. I like quirky and adorable characters, and both Wes and Liz fit the bill. I do have to say that I was a bit annoyed by Liz at times, and especially when it comes to how she treats the people close to her. I understand that she is still grieving her mother, but that doesn't really excuse just how bad she treats them at times. There were some other minor niggles that prevented me from giving it the full five stars, but I still very much enjoyed reading Better Than The Movies. I will be looking forward to the sequel coming out next year!
